NOTICE HERE THE DISRUPTION OF CLASSICAL ANALYSIS OF MEDIA TEMPORALITY
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are plastics extensions of humans or are humans extensions of plastic
?????????????????
The use we make of plastic bags is one of short, fast-faced interactions.
But what happens after and during extends its temporality

HOW MUCH PLASTIC DO WE INTERACT WITH TO MEDIATE OUR DAILY ACTIVITIES AND PERFORM BASIC FUNCTIONS?
Caaarrinngg and facilitaatingg !
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR GROCERIES TODAY?
Plastic bags will fragment and create heterogeneous spaceS to answer that question
They are a subliminal tool of branding, they narcotically and subconsciously influence us through their contribution to the hyper-saturated space.
HOW MUCH HAS PLASTIC MEDIATED THE ACCELERATION OF PRODUCTION, CONSUMPTION AND ECOLOGICAL EXTRACTION?
Our interaction with this medium is so effective in its function that we do not even notice that it is a medium itself.
When newly introduced, a medium tends to be cool: it is presented explicitly as something that will extend our capacities and it requires conscious interaction.
But as habit or proper marketing and interfaceless design will have it, this will become less conscious and more automatic.

Creating new landscapes.
Mistaken for food by non-human agents.
Modifying our atmosphere.
THE HEATING UP OF PLASTIC HAS A PARALLEL EFFECT ON THE HEATING UP OF EARTH
The heating up of plastic as a medium has made our senses deeply focused on the content of the medium… but our participation and agency is minimal.
As our interactions with other media are starting to be compromised by the abundance of plastic we are starting to question whether there should be an alternative to it.
There is a new cooling down melting in between the fires.
In the refound ‘coolness’ of plastic, many artists have found a hypermediating material which both allows for an ample creative range as well as a socio-environmental critique.
Artist Kelly Jazvac is quite literally REMEDIATING plastic through projects in which she collects old vinyl advertisement posters with which her installations are built.

Artist Pinar Yoldas speculates on the possible. Linking the current metamorphosis to the future extensions that plastic will create as a medium:
NEW ORGANS AND ORGANISMS
Thinking through plastic, she hints at the possibility of further remediation towards the extension and the transfiguration of bodies.

Plastic has entered an ecology of media and the ecosystem, but humans also entered as mediators into an ecology of plastic.
As we more and more feed from microplastics found in our foods, plastic is extending its capacities and acting as an agent that is remediating the body into new forms that can sustain its presence. Through this thinking, it comes as no surprise that current imaginative media - through forms such as science fiction - examines plastic as acting as catalyst to the metamorphosing of bodies, of geologies and of atmospheres, viewing all these as mediums that it can benefit from and extend its capacities through.
